Overview
Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3D platforming action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo. The gsame exclusively eleased for the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, 2025.
In Donkey Kong Bananza, players control Donkey Kong as he embarks on a quest to recover stolen banana-shaped diamonds from a group of villainous apes. A major feature is the destructible environments throughout the game, allowing players to destroy most terrain to create paths, craft makeshift tools, and uncover hidden items.
The upcoming DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza, titled DK Island & Emerald Rush, expands the game with two distinct additions. Players return to DK’s home turf—DK Island—where familiar landmarks like the Treehouse and Gangplank Galleon are reimagined for exploration. While the island includes bonus stages and character statues unlockable via Banandium Chips, the core of the DLC is Emerald Rush, a roguelike challenge mode. In it, players race against the clock to collect emerald ore, unlock perks, and complete timed objectives across both new and existing levels. The DLC launched on September 12, 2025, for $19.99
Story
Donkey Kong Bananza follows Donkey Kong as he investigates a mining operation on Ingot Isle. A company called VoidCo is extracting Banandium Gems, a powerful resource located deep underground. During an accident, Donkey Kong falls into the subterranean layers of the island and begins exploring the tunnels and ruins below. He meets Pauline, who has been transformed by the island’s energy, and together they work to reach the Banandium Root, a source of power located at the planet’s core.
As they progress, Donkey Kong gains new abilities from local tribes and uncovers the history of the island. Their journey leads to a confrontation with Void Kong, the leader of VoidCo, and eventually awakens King K. Rool, who had been sealed away during a previous expedition. The story ends with Donkey Kong and Pauline stopping the mining operation and restoring balance to the underground ecosystem.
