Overview

Mario Tennis Fever is a sports game developed by Camelot and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch 2. It is the ninth entry in the Mario Tennis series and is scheduled for release on February 12, 2026. The game supports single-player, local multiplayer, and online play, with up to four players competing in casual or ranked matches. It introduces new gameplay systems while retaining the arcade-style tennis mechanics the series is known for.

New features include Fever Rackets, which have unique effects, and a Fever Gauge that builds during rallies and enables powerful shots. Mix It Up Mode adds unpredictable Wonder effects to matches, while Trial Towers offer challenge-based progression. Motion controls are supported through Swing Mode using the updated Joy-Con controllers. Defensive moves such as slides and dives have been added to improve court coverage.

The playable roster includes 38 characters, the largest in the series to date. In addition to core characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, the game features Pauline, Petey Piranha, Chain Chomp, and others. Baby versions of key characters are exclusive to story mode. Non-playable characters such as Bullet Bills, Lakitus, and Prince Florian appear in supporting roles, while audience members include Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Yoshis.

Court environments range from standard layouts to themed courts with dynamic hazards. Wonder courts introduce shifting effects that alter gameplay mid-match. Visual updates include improved character models and animations, and the soundtrack features remixes from Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Crowd reactions and ambient sound effects have also been enhanced.

Mario Tennis Fever was announced during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct and is part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebration. It will be available in multiple languages and offered in both physical and digital formats. The game marks the first Mario sports title on the Switch 2 and introduces Baby Wario and Baby Waluigi as playable characters for the first time.

Story

The story mode takes place on a remote island where Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, and Waluigi are transformed into baby versions of themselves by a magical curse. Players guide these characters through tennis-based missions and challenges to reverse the transformation. The story includes boss battles and exploration elements that are integrated into the tennis gameplay.
