Overview
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an upcoming dual-pack release for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, launching globally on October 2, 2025, as part of Super Mario’s 40th Anniversary celebration. The games are now enhanced with HD visuals, improved frame rates, and modernized controls. Players can purchase each title individually for $39.99 via the Nintendo eShop, or opt for the full bundle at $69.99, available both digitally and as a physical edition.
Both games now support assist mode, motion or stick-based controls, and feature upgraded resolutions—1080p on Switch and up to 4K on Switch 2 with frame rates reaching 120fps on the Nintendp Switch. . A new soundtrack mode allows players to enjoy the orchestral scores independently, and Amiibo support has been added for Mario and Rosalina figures, unlocking in-game bonuses like Life Mushrooms and 1-Ups.
Narrative enhancements include a new chapter added to Rosalina’s Storybook in Super Mario Galaxy, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 introduces an entirely new storybook experience. A physical hardcover edition of Rosalina’s Storybook, excluding the new chapters, will be released on November 25, 2025.
Nintendo will be releasing two nwq amiibo alongside the game. Mario & Luma amiibo will give a Life Mushroom. Rosalina & Luma amiibo will give a 1-Up Mushroom. These amiibo will release on April 2, 2026.
Story
In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and escapes into space, creating a new empire at the center of the universe. Mario follows him and meets Rosalina, who oversees the Comet Observatory. To reach Bowser, Mario must collect Power Stars by completing missions across various galaxies. Each galaxy contains unique challenges and environments. As Mario gathers enough stars, he restores power to the Observatory and unlocks new areas. Eventually, he confronts Bowser, defeats him, and rescues Princess Peach.
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bowser returns, now larger and more powerful after absorbing cosmic energy. He kidnaps Princess Peach again and flees into deep space. Mario sets out aboard Starship Mario, a mobile hub, to collect Power Stars and pursue Bowser. Along the way, he visits new galaxies, uses various power-ups, and teams up with Yoshi to overcome obstacles. After collecting enough stars, Mario reaches Bowser’s final stronghold, defeats him, and rescues Princess Peach once more.
