Overview
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is an upcoming platformer for the Nintendo Switch 2, developed by Nintendo EPD and scheduled for release in spring 2026. The game introduces a fresh visual style inspired by hand-drawn storybooks, with environments that resemble animated sketch illustrations. It marks a stylistic departure from previous Yoshi titles like Woolly World and Crafted World, leaning instead into a colored pencil aesthetic with dynamic page-flipping transitions
Gameplay retains classic Yoshi mechanics such as flutter jumping, egg throwing, and tongue grabbing. New features include companion creatures like flower buds that help grow platforms and frogs that blow bubbles Yoshi can ride. Players collect Ink Stars throughout the adventure, which unlock bonus chapters and lore entries, adding depth to exploration and replayability. The game was announced during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct and is built on a new engine optimized for the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware. Enhanced haptic feedback allows players to feel the texture of sketchbook environments and interact more intuitively with the world.
Story
The story begins when a magical book named Mr. E falls from the sky onto Yoshi’s island. This sentient book reveals a hidden world trapped within its pages, and Yoshi embarks on a journey to explore each chapter, solve puzzles, and document strange creatures. Each level represents a unique page in the book, offering distinct mechanics, visual themes, and environmental challenges.
Reception & Sales
Early previews have praised its nostalgic platforming, innovative art direction, and potential for emotional storytelling, positioning it as a standout title in the Yoshi franchise.
