Mario Kart
Wii was released on April 27, 2008 in North America. The game was
developed and published by Nintendo. The game came
packaged with the Wii
Wheel. The Wii Remote fits inside of the Wii Wheel.
Four other methods of controller schemes could be used.
These were Wii Remote,
Wii Remote with nunchuk, Classic controller, and Gamecube controller.
The game will supported Nintendo WFC. Up to 12 players will be able to race
each other. A new Wii channel was launched with the game. This allowed
for tournaments to take place. Players also were able to check their
rankings.
A number of old items returned as well as new items.
Motorcycles have been added and used for 100cc or 150cc races. Karts will be used
for 50cc and 150cc races. Players could choose 1 of 24 different
characters to race. Players could even race as their Wii's Mii character.
The game had 16 new tracks as well as 16 tracks from
previous versions of Mario Kart. Sixteen of those tracks had to be unlocked. The game
has sold over 34 million copies worldwide. This was the best-selling game
on the Wii, not counting Wii Sports. As of 2013, Mario Kart Wii was the
best-selling racing game of all time.
