Super Mario Galaxy was the third 3D action-platform game in the Mario series.  The game was released on November 12, 2007 in North America.  The game followed Mario throughout space to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser.

     The game allowed for six different save files.  Another player can help Mario in his journey using a second Wii Remote.  The second player can even stun enemies.

     Most of the game took place in outer space.  Mario visitsedvarious galaxies to find stars.  There were a total of 121 stars.  Luigi is playable upon getting the 120th star.  It was in outer space where Mario met with Princess Rosalina.

     The game's central hub is called the Comet Observatory.  The are six themed areas, the Terrace, Fountain, Kitchen, Bedroom, Engine Room, and Garden.  There are 42 galaxies between the six areas.  Each galaxy had between 1 to 7 stars.  Mario meets Rosalina, who watches the stars and travels throughout space.

     Mario can collect Star Bits.  After collecting 50 Star Bits, Mario gains an extra life.  He also gets an extra life after collecting 50 coins.  Star Bits can be used to feed hungry Lumas.  Once fed enough, they transformed into a new planet or galaxy.  Each planet had different gravity.  Mario sometimes may off the side of a planet or walk underneath it.

     Mario had new power-ups as well as old ones.  New ones included Ice Mario, Bee Mario, Spring Mario, and Flying Mario.  He can transform into Fire Mario and Rainbow Mario using a Starman.

     The music in the game featured a full symphony.  There were several new musical arrangements in the game.  There were also several musical updated tracks from Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario 64.

     The game has received critical acclaim.  The game won several awards from major video game publications and online websites.  The game sold over 500,000 copies in its first week in the U.S.  It has since sold over 10.5 million copies since its release.
