Pikmin 3 was developed by Nintendo and Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo.  The game was released in Japan on July 13, 2013 and in the following months worldwide.

     Players take command of up to 100 Pikmin.  Players use Pikmin to explore in-game worlds and unlock treasures.

     Two new Pikmin type were introduced.  These were rock Pikmin and pink-winged Pikmin.  Rock Pikmin can smash barriers and glass.  The other type can fly and lift gates.

     Players can use the Wii U GamePad controller as an in-game camera to capture the alien-safari environment from a pint-sized perspective. Players can snap and caption photos, then share them via Miiverse.  The GamePad can also be used to play the game in off-TV mode.

     The game received mostly positive reviews.  Most complaints dealt with game being too short.  As of October 2013, the game has sold 500,000 copies.  Nintendo released DLC that could be purchased for the game in October 2013.  This added four additional missions to Mission Mode.  Nintendo will be releasing additional DLC for the game on December 2, 2013.
