Pokkén Tournament is an arcade fighting game that original appeared in Japanese arcades.  The game was ported over to the Wii U.  The game was developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published by The Pokémon Company.  The game is based on Tokken Tournament.

      The arcade game was released on July 16, 2015.  The Wii U version was simultaneously released worldwide on March 18, 2016.

      The game features 16 different playable Pokémon that can be used to battle.  30 additional Pokémon appear as assist Pokémon.  These 30 Pokémon come in 15 sets of 2 Pokémon.

     Hori released a special Wii U controller based on the controller of the arcade version.  A special Pikachu version of the controller will also be available. 

      The arcade version had complaints from arcade owners as one credit lasted too long causing a lack of profits.  The Wii U version caused an increase in Wii U consoles being sold the week of its release.  As of May 2016, the game has sold approximately 700, 000 copies.
