New Super Luigi U is an expanded version of New Super Mario Bros. U.  The game was part of the Year of Luigi which was dedicated as 2013.  The game was based on Luigi saving Princess Peach.  Mario isn't a playable character.  He was replaced by Nibbit.  The game featured the same map as New Super Mario Bros. U.

The game went on sale on June 20th as downloadable content in North America.  The DLC pack costs $19.99.  Gamers were able to purchase it as a stand alone game for $29.99.  This went on sale on August 25, 2013.

Players have only 100 seconds to finish each stage.  The game is much harder then the original copy.  Players can play as Luigi, Nibbit, or as a Toad.  Nibbit can not use power-ups but is invincible to enemies.  If he does collect any power-ups, they are converted into 1-Ups.

The game received mostly positive reviews.  Critics had wished for new challenges or mini-games to be included.  As of June 2015, the game has sold 2.26 million copies.

Nintendo will be releasing a special version featuring New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U.  This game goes on sale October 16, 2015.  It will retail for $59.99.
