Yoshi's Woolly World
was released on October 16, 2015. It was first released in Europe on June
26, 2015 and followed by Japan on July 16, 2015. The game was developed by
Good-Feel and Nintendo. The game was published by Nintendo.
This game was the first Yoshi game to be released for on a home console
since Yoshi's Story in 1997.
Players tangle, pull, and stretch yarn to
explore the world around Yoshi. The game has a similar game play to the
Yoshi's Island series. Instead of eggs, Yoshi will be tossing yarn balls.
These yarn balls will be able to place a muzzle on a Piranha Plant or knit
together background elements.
The game features Mellow Mode which is
an easier version of the game which can be activated at any
time. Yoshi will have new transformations. These
include a motorcycle, mole, and giant Yoshi.
The game supports amiibo figurines. These amiibo will
be made out of yarn to match the game. These amiibo will enable a
duplicate Yoshi to join a solo player and replicate the possibilities of the
two-player mode. Nintendo plans to launch three Yoshi Amiibos to coincide
with the game's launch in pink,
green, and blue. Additional amiibo will also be compatible and Yoshi will
take a look similar to that amiibo.
The game received mixed reviews. Some
critics found fault with the Mellow Mode saying it made the game
too easy. The game sold 43,000 copies during its first two
weeks on sale in Japan.
