Super Mario Bros. Wonder was released for the Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. The game was developed and published by Nintendo. The game features the first time Kevin Afghni took over for Charles Martinet for the voices of Mario & Luigi.
Mario and friends have new power-ups in the game including one that will turn them into an elephant. Mario is joined by Luigi, Peach, Toad, Daisy, and Yoshi as playable characters. The game features four-player multiplayer options.
The game's story takes place in the Flower Kingdom. The game's levels incorporate similar general themes to the New Super Mario Bros. series, such as grassland, desert, and beach stages. There is a contiguous world map. Each level in this game have unique names and each one is also assigned a difficulty rating in-game. The game features no scores or timers.
The signature feature of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the Wonder Flower. This power-up changes the world around Mario and friends in unique and strange ways. These include bringing Warp Pipes to life or causing Trottin' Piranha Plants to start singing. Wonder Flowers are only found in the Flower Kingdom. Other items found only in the Flower Kingdom are Wonder Seeds and flower coins.
Another notable addition to the game are Talking Flowers, non-playable characters that populate levels and comment on in-game events and players' actions. New characters in the game include Poplins. They are similar in appearance to Toads but are taller. Prince Florid=an is the ruler of the Flower Kingdom. Bowser returns as the main villain. He brings along several enemies from the Mushroom Kingdom.
The game sold 4.3 million units in its first two weeks of release and became the fastest-selling Super Mario game. It sold 11.96 million units by December 31, 2023. The game received very favorable reviews and was praised for its design and creative innovations.
