Captain
Toad: Treasure Tracker was an action puzzle game.
It was developed by Nintendo with help from Group No. 2 and 1-UP Studio.
It was published by Nintendo.
The game was released on November 13, 2014 in Japan and on December 5, 2014 in
North America.
It is the first game to feature Captain Toad as the main character.
The Toad amiibo figure is compatible with the game.
The amiibo was released on March 20, 2015.
Players can manipulate the camera to view around the level, which can
reveal hidden areas containing bonus items. Captain
Toad can be hit twice before dying, and can collect mushrooms to restore his
health. He can pull up vegetables to
hit items or enemies. In the game,
players control Captain Toad, or sometimes his companion Toadette, who must
safely navigate through various obstacles in order to reach a gold star at the
end of each level.
The game is based
on the stages from Super Mario 3D
World. Captain Toad is able to
walk and run but he is unable to jump.
Players who have a Super Mario 3D World save file will be able to play
stages in Captain Toad: Treasure that were modified for Captain Toad to play in.
The game received positive reviews.
Criticism was directed towards the game being on the short side,
gyroscope functionality and the menu system.
The game was praised for its level design and puzzle aspect of the game.
